Bergson Leneus
East Orange Third Ward Council
Bergson Leneus made history as the first Haitian American elected to the East Orange City Council, representing the 3rd Ward since 2018. Born in Newark and raised in East Orange by Haitian immigrant parents, he remains deeply connected to his roots and the community he serves.
Leneus earned a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Rutgers University–Newark and is known for bringing research-backed and progressive strategies to city governance. He has served on numerous committees—Arts & Recreation, Health, and Education—and chaired Finance in 2024.
His prior roles include Board President of the East Orange Board of Education and a member of the East Orange YMCA Board.
His leadership is focused on inclusive governance and community-driven policy, aimed at moving East Orange forward for all residents.
A proud father of four, Councilman Leneus remains deeply connected to the community that shaped him. His business acumen, government experience, and unwavering dedication to resident welfare make him uniquely qualified to continue serving the Third Ward.
