In 2024, Becky, along with a handful of neighbors from South Orange and Maplewood, was elected as a District Leader under the slogan Fair Ballot Democrats. Chief among the ad-hoc group’s priorities was a belief that New Jersey’s County Line Ballot was a fundamentally undemocratic aspect of NJ electoral politics. Though we witnessed the demise of the Line shortly thereafter, the experience galvanized this new crop of District Leaders – and connected them to many others across the County who’d been serving much longer. It has since become an organizing tool for building a reform-minded, inclusive, grassroots movement within the County Party’s existing structure.
As a candidate for the Democratic Party’s State Committee, Becky is proud to be running alongside fellow Essex Reform Democrats, and plans to continue her work promoting transparency, accountability, and legitimacy from within, while drawing more New Jerseyans into the democratic process at the local and state levels.
