ABOUT MIKIE sherrill
Mikie Sherrill is a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, former Navy helicopter pilot, and ex-federal prosecutor who currently serves New Jersey in Congress. She is running for governor to make life more affordable for Garden State families. Her career has been defined by service to her country and New Jersey. Inspired by her grandfather, a World War II veteran, Sherrill joined the military and graduated from the Naval Academy in 1994. She served nearly a decade on active duty, leading missions throughout Europe and the Middle East as a Sea King Helicopter pilot. She also worked on the Battle Watch Floor during the Iraq War and served as a Russian policy officer. After her military service, Sherrill earned a law degree and became an Assistant U.S. Attorney in New Jersey. She prosecuted federal cases, focusing on removing illegal guns from the streets and establishing programs to help former prisoners reintegrate into society. In 2018, motivated by the election of Donald Trump, Sherrill ran for office and was elected to represent New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. Her campaign led to the largest swing from red to blue in the country that year. As a mother of four, she advocates for New Jersey families, working to reduce costs and improve infrastructure. She also fights for reproductive freedom and serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. Sherrill and her husband, Jason, also a Naval Academy graduate, reside in Montclair, New Jersey, with their four children. Their eldest daughter is currently serving in the U.S. Navy.
