Maurice A. Cummings brings legislative, political and consulting experience with him to the Essex County Executive Director’s office. He is a highly experienced strategist and dynamic manager with over seventeen years in New York City, State, local legislative and political environments. He honed his skills in New York working for the likes of current New York County Democratic Chairman and former Assemblyman, Keith L.T. Wright, Congressman Charles B. Rangel and legends like New York City’s first Black mayor, David N. Dinkins. Maurice has worked extensively in New Jersey State and City politics both as a consultant, a Field director, and as VP of Operations at Dunton Consulting, LLC. He's chalked up victories in New York for former New York State Governor, Andrew Cuomo, New York State Attorney General, Letitia James. In Essex County, he worked vigorously for Governor Murphy's 2017 and 2021 campaigns, as well as the entire City Council slate of candidates for East Orange and Mayor Ted Green in 2017 and 2019. Maurice credits his much of his success to his mentor and dear friend, New York County Democratic Chairman and former New York State Assemblyman, Keith L.T. Wright, to whom he worked with for thirteen years.

Maurice attended New York City Public Schools and went on to study at New York University. He is a staunch Brooklynite and still calls Brooklyn his home. He is the proud father of two amazing children, Nasir Khari, 26 and McKenzie Lee, 14. He contends that being a father is the greatest gift and responsibility that has ever been bestowed upon him.
